Basic situation of zircon

Zircon, also known as zircon or hyacinth, is mainly composed of zirconium silicate with chemical formula of ZrSiO4, which is a kind of stable gem. The appearance of zircon is red, golden yellow and colorless, which is often used for decoration. Because it is very similar to diamond, zircon is often used to make diamond substitutes, which has high value.

Finished zircon refers to the zircon that can reach the gem level after grinding, rolling, polishing, drilling, carving and other processing processes. According to the raw materials, it can be divided into natural zircon products and synthetic zircon products. The main component of natural zircon is zircon silicate and the artificial zircon is synthetic zirconia. At the same time, natural zircon contains trace radioactive elements. When the crystallinity is low, it will produce certain radiation effect, while synthetic zircon has no radiation effect.

Thailand and Sri Lanka are the main zircons producing countries. Sri Lanka is famous for its rich zircons of various colors, and Thailand is the main source of gem grade zircons. Other producing countries include Myanmar, France, Australia, Tanzania, etc.

Precautions for import zircon declaration

1. Elements of zircon standard declaration
   The standard declaration of zircon involves the following elements: specific product name, type, processing degree (unprocessed, simply sawed, rough formed, etc.), state (not in series, not inlaid, etc.), source (natural, synthetic, reconstructed), mineral scientific name and English name, brand, grade and specification (length, width and height), chemical composition and content, use, etc. Among them, “product name”, “processing degree”, “chemical composition and content” and other three declaration elements should be paid special attention during declaration.
2. Accurately declare relevant tax number
   According to the import and export tariff of the people’s Republic of China, zircon raw materials, finished zircon products correspond to different tax numbers: natural zircon raw materials are classified under 71031000; synthetic zircon raw materials are classified under 71042090; natural zircon is classified under 71039990; synthetic zircon is classified under 71049099; and zircon products are classified under 71162000.
3. Declaration of royalties as required
   Royalties refer to the fees paid by the buyer of imported goods to obtain the license or transfer of patent, trademark, know-how, copyright, distribution right or sales right from the intellectual property right holder and the effective authorizer of the right holder.
